On this day, in 2017 Brazil set a record of 12 title victories in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix after their tie-break win against Italy at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre in China

Brazil won a record 12th title in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix after defeating Italy in a tie-breaker set on Aug. 6, 2017. Brazil overcame huge leads from the rival Italians in the first and third sets to claim the championship 26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-8. Brazil’s Tandara Caixeta and Natalia Pereira each had 22 points in the match. Brazil’s defense also made an impact by mounting 15 blocks against the Italians in the match. 

Pereira’s performance earned her a second consecutive World Grand Prix MVP award. The Brazilians are also the overall leaders in the number of medals in the history of the competition with 19.
