Albert Pujols Sets MLB Home Run Record

On this day, in 2004 MLB superstar Albert Pujols became the first player in MLB history to hit at least 30 HRs in each of his first four seasons.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols hit his 30th home run of the season on Aug. 3, 2004, to become the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit 30 or more homers in each of his first four seasons. When the season ended, Pujols had 160 career homers, trailing only Ralph Kiner, who hit 168 with the Pittsburgh Pirates in his first four seasons. Pujols had a thrilling 2004 season that included a July game against the Chicago Cubs in which he finished with five RBIs and three home runs. In September, Pujols recorded his 500th RBI, joining MLB legends Joe DiMaggio (New York Yankees) and Ted Williams (Boston Red Sox) as the only players to have 500 RBIs in their first four seasons. Pujols, who joined the Los Angeles Angels in 2012, ended the 2019-2020 season with 656 career home runs.
